Net connected games becoming hackers new playground

wowWell it looks like the bad guys are turning to another source of mischief. Attacking and stealing user accounts of popular online games such as World of Warcraft, Lineage, and Maple Story.

In the last six months, Microsoft has seen more than 4.9m infections caused by Taterf - a figure up 156% on the total seen in the last six months of 2008.
Mr Evans said the virus used a variety of tricks to steal login names and passwords for the most popular online games.

"It's all about getting login credentials," he said. "The question is what might they do with those credentials."

"They might sell them because they are worth something," he said. "By using them they can obtain certain things within the game or they can buy services through some sort of market place."

"There's clearly a financial angle to it that makes it worthwhile," he said.

Flu Season? Help your PC avoid infection

utilityWith all the different options out there to defend or more likely remove viruses, spyware, malware and just general badness on your PC.  I thought I would share my favorite three.  Oh and they are also FREE!!!

After working in the I.T. field for almost a decade now, I've seen a lot of poorly protected computers.  They tend to be home machines that the user thought had antivirus software but the subscription ran out a year ago.  Well hopefully with this three punch combo you'll feel a little safer on the net.

AVG Free has been around for quite a while now, and I believe it is one of the best options out there. If your looking for an effective and very affordable antivirus package look no further.

Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware fall into the same category but they are both worth their weight in gold. Both packages do a great job removing spyware and malware.  They will remove things that other packages won't and in my experience even some of the popular payed for apps.

Get protected.  If you aren't running any type of multilevel protection it's time to start.
